I am very happy to see the return of Bori to Gobir land. Bori is one of the ancient Hausa cultural traditions that plays an important role in understanding the history of our ancestors. It is unfortunate when a community abandons its history to the point where young people no longer know their roots.
Preserving culture does not mean that we must practise everything our ancestors did. Rather, it means knowing our history and understanding our origins.
People of faith should follow the teachings of their religion, while those who are interested in cultural traditions should also be respected, provided that the laws and rights of others are respected. Differences in beliefs and perspectives should never become a cause of hatred or division.
The people of Gobir have the right to know their history and discuss their cultural traditions freely and with mutual respect. Religion has its place, culture has its history, and maintaining peace is a responsibility we all share.
